Christian Zann
Chief Investment Officer & Founder

Christian is the CIO of Sourcerock Group, an equity long short asset manager focused on the energy ecosystem which he founded in 2020.  Prior to Sourcerock, Christian was a partner and portfolio manager at Balyasny Asset Management (BAM) from 2004 to 2019.  Christian ran both energy and industrials allocations at BAM, was consistently a top profit generator, and became a partner in 2007.  Within BAM, Christian launched and managed the ZIE fund from 2014 until 2019 as a separate outside portfolio. He also managed a team of 10 investment professionals across equity and credit.  Before BAM, Christian was a portfolio manager at Fidelity Investments from 1996-2004. He managed Fidelity Select Natural Gas, Select Software, and Select Consumer at various points in his career. Christian graduated from University of Michigan Ross School of Business in 1996.

Thiru Ramakrishnan

Thiru Ramakrishnan
Co-Founder & Principal

Thiru is a Principal and Co-Founder of Sourcerock.  His responsibilities include coverage of the Oil Service sector, he assists Sourcerock’s other analysts in the research and development of their investment ideas, and he plays a key role in portfolio risk management. Thiru has been investing in and analyzing commodity-related and other equities for more than 20 years. He founded and was CIO of TVR capital from 2016 to 2019.  Before TVR, Thiru spent six years as an equity long short Portfolio Manager at Point 72 Capital.  Prior to Point 72, he was a Portfolio Manager at Mission Global and an equity analyst at Touradji Capital. Thiru began his career as an equity sell-side research analyst at Simmons & Co. He is a graduate of Tulane University.

 
Paul Grigel

Paul Grigel
CFA, Senior Analyst

Paul joined Sourcerock in 2020 as a Senior Analyst covering the E&P sector. He has over 17 years of finance experience having most recently served as a Senior Analyst, Associate Director, at Macquarie for nearly nine years.  At Macquarie he published equity research on E&P firms and was a top-rated analyst with recognition for his unique approach and analysis, including being recognized as an Institutional Investor Rising Star. His prior experience includes two years of distressed credit advisory and investing with FTI Consulting and Anschutz Investments, respectively. He began his career in investment banking at Lehman Brothers in 2004.  Paul holds a BA in Economics and a BS in Finance, both with Distinction, from the University of Colorado at Boulder, and is a Chartered Financial Analyst.

 

Richard Wernick
CFA, Senior Analyst

Richard joined Sourcerock in 2021 as a Senior Analyst covering Energy Infrastructure.  Richard was most recently a Senior Analyst at Citadel Global Equities where he focused on the Midstream & Utilities sectors. Prior to Citadel, Richard was a Portfolio Manager & Analyst at Brookfield’s Public Securities Group where he focused on North American Infrastructure. Before his career in investing, Richard practiced corporate law at Cahill Gordon & Reindel in New York. Richard holds a B.S. in Business Administration (with honors & distinction) from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a J.D. from New York University School of Law. He has also obtained the CFA Certificate in ESG Investing and the SASB FSA Credential.

Andrew Haley

Andrew Haley
CFA, Chief Operating Officer

Andrew is the Chief Operating Officer of Sourcerock and joined when the firm launched in 2020.  He is responsible for all business activities including finance, operations, and marketing.  Prior to Sourcerock, Andrew co-founded and was COO of 1060 Capital for eight years. He grew 1060 Capital from a start-up to over $500 million in assets under management and was responsible for all non-investment related activities. Before co-founding 1060, Andrew spent over 12 years with J.P. Morgan in the Private Bank and Investment Bank.  He received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Notre Dame graduating magna cum laude, his MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and is a Chartered Financial Analyst. 

 

Carter Herbert
CFA, Head of Marketing & Investor Relations

Carter joined Sourcerock in 2023 and is the Head of Marketing and Investor Relations. Prior to joining Sourcerock, Carter was the Director of Client Relations at Senator Investment Group, where she oversaw the firm’s fundraising and investor relations efforts and was a member of the Management Committee. Prior to joining Senator, Carter was a Vice President in the Client Advisory Group at York Capital Management, primarily focused on North American Institutional and consultant relationships. Prior to York, Carter was an Analyst in the Debt Capital Markets Group at UBS Investment Bank. She received a B.S. in Economics and a B.A. in Classical Civilizations, magna cum laude, from Duke University, and holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
